Andrew S. de Dezsery M.Sc. TAA04, ISSI Fellow, Aquaculture & Aquaponics Master
Andrew began his career in aquaculture with building a Fish Protech system back in 1990. He went on to become manager of Westbeach Aquaculture for a time before gaining his degree in aquaculture and starting his own aquaculture equipment supply and consultation business in partnership with his wife Cathryn in 1997.
Andrew is a passionate and enthusiastic advocate for aquaponics and has devoted over 20 years of his career to developing, perfecting and promoting the water saving technology. His first aquaponic system was installed (and still running) at Nuriootpa High School in 1999. Having designed and built several large successful aquaponic systems, he also knows first-hand what is required in running and maintaining commercial size facilities as well as our own Lewiston system showcase of our three home size systems which have been running reliably with minimal maintenance since 2012.
A national and international speaker and qualified trainer, Andrew has taught at Flinders University, TAFE & WEA so is well qualified and knowledgeable in all aspects of Aquaculture & Aquaponics from primary to university level.
To promote awareness of aquaponics, he has appeared on Landline, WIN TV, ABC Rural Radio and also in The Stock Journal, The Bunyip and the Loxton News.
Some of his positions include Professional Fisherman N.T. and S.A. Sport Fishing/Tour Operator Coburg Peninsula, Arnhem land NT, Industry sector development of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), Development of commercial barramundi industry sector, West Beach Aquaculture Operations Manager, Consultant, University lecturer aquaculture (Flinders S.A), Aquaculture journalist, Inland Aquaculture Association of South Australia executive and steering committee member, Mallala Council P.A.R consulting advisor (aquaculture) ran the Integrated Farming Research and Development facility at Lewiston and has designed and installed several commercial aquaponic farms in South Australia, along with many home systems around Australia.
Cathryn de Dezsery Dip.IT, also joint owner and operator Aquaculture Advantage and #1 Aquaponics, prefers to stay in the background but brings a diverse skill-set that includes project management, office administration, website administration, product development, customer service and PA to Andrew.
